Farm Arts Collective is an ensemble of performers and farmers based on Willow Wisp Organic Farm in Damascus, PA. The company will tour to Unison Arts to perform their critically acclaimed site specific theatre performance, “The Scientists", on Sunday Sept 25th at 3 PM. The performance is part of a 10-year cycle of original climate change themes plays entitled DREAM ON THE FARM that the collective of performers, farmers, scientists, musicians, and stilt walkers launched in 2020.
Under the direction of farmer and artistic director Tannis Kowalchuk, ”The Scientists" follows the journey of two scientists, Carl Sagan (astronomer) and Lynn Margulis (microbiologist) who are reunited in a boxing ring and challenged to compete in a sport to “help save life on the planet.” The scientists embark on a competitive fact-finding journey in the micro and macro cosmos and meet a host of characters along the way. The competition concludes with the scientists presenting their findings to the audience in a climatic dance of ecology, and the results deliver a climate change message that is urgent and poignant.
Featured in THE NEW YORK TIMES , Farm Arts Collective delivers an original devised performance for all ages incorporating live music, real science, stilt walking and imaginatively explores the world of climate change through two lenses -- the microscope and the telescope. The Unison Arts performance will begin with a led stroll through the current sculpture garden exhibit animated by the performers of Farm Arts Collective, followed by the 40 minute performance of THE SCIENTISTS.
