Improvisational Comedy
In addition to our visual arts, music and performance programming, Unison’s Improvisational Comedy continues!
Session II starts in Spring 2025. No experience is necessary.
Have you ever watched an improv show, in a theater, or on TV (like “Whose Line is it Anyway”) and wondered “How do they do that?” and more to the point, “Could I do that?” - we now have the answer.
YES - you can do this, AND yes, you should do this.
Improv is actually simpler than you imagine. It’s all about the rule of “YES, AND…” - by saying “YES” to whatever comes your way, you will learn to become more free, more attentive, and more observant of everything that is going on around you, both on the stage, and in the rest of the world, once you leave the class.
Over this eight-week program, you will learn to work with your group to put on a comedic play, without a script, and to spin comedy gold, from thin air. The class will culminate in a class show (please invite your friends and family) which, we guarantee, will be spectacular, and funny beyond anything you can imagine.
Once you catch the improv bug, you can learn, and perform more and more advanced forms and styles. But even if you never had an interest in getting on stage, the skills you will learn through improv will dramatically (and comedically) enhance your observational skills, and listening skills in ways that will help you in your art making, in your job, and in your life.
The class will be taught by Scott Benjamin.
Eight consecutive classes: $200 Unison members • $240 non-members.
